In-Floor Cleaning Systems are usually reserved for new pool construction, these systems provide the ultimate in pool cleaning. In-floor pool cleaning systems work like an automatic lawn sprinkling system: Recessed jets mounted on the pool floor pop up at programmed times, spraying streams of water to direct large debris toward the main drain. Meanwhile, smaller particles suspended in the water are stirred up for filtration by the circulation system. When the entire cycle is finished, the jets retract back into the pool floor, creating a smooth and even surface.
Once installed, in-floor systems require little maintenance or hassle -- you simply program each cleaning cycle via a timer. However, significant work is required to pipe the system beneath the pool floor, so these types of cleaners are best considered prior to or during pool construction -- and not as an add-on. They are also the costliest option, starting at around $3,000 for a typical backyard pool.
